My name is Mosima John Raymond Chewa, and I am currently a Marketing Management intern at a research company Future Africa (UP). This opportunity has allowed me to gain valuable experience in a field I have always been passionate about, and I am excited to share my journey to inspire others.
Work Experience
*I have over two years of experience in retail sales as a merchandiser. My primary responsibilities included ensuring stock availability in stores and on shelves, as well as promoting goods to educate customers about both existing and new product lines within our range. This role taught me the importance of product presentation, customer engagement, and strategic marketing.
Previously, I was a Marketing Management intern at The Sun Carousel Casino in Hammanskraal. I worked there for less than four months, from December 2019 to March 2020. Unfortunately, my contract was cut short due to COVID-19 retrenchments, and the company eventually closed.
Most recently, I worked as an Educator Assistant, primarily in an administrative role. I assisted with managing internal and external examinations, which helped me develop my organizational and coordination skills.
Why N6 Marketing Management
Marketing has always been a part of my life, even before I formally studied it. Growing up, I watched my mother engage in informal marketing—selling products at schools and within our community. She unknowingly created her own brand and clientele, which fascinated me. Seeing her dedication and ability to build customer relationships inspired me to pursue a formal education in Marketing Management. Initially, I wanted to get into retail management, which aligns closely with marketing. My studies have reinforced my passion for this field and shown me the many career paths it offers.
Internship
I discovered this internship opportunity through the "My College" site. However, I first saw the recruitment company’s email in a social media post, which prompted me to apply. This experience has taught me the importance of actively searching for opportunities and making use of available resources.
Company
I am currently interning at Future Africa, a research institute at the University of Pretoria. Future Africa is dedicated to fostering transformative research and leadership development across the African continent. The organization provides a collaborative space for researchers and scholars to tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing Africa and the world. Working here has given me the opportunity to engage with innovative projects, learn from experienced professionals, and contribute to impactful research initiatives.
This internship has been a significant step in my career, and I am eager to continue growing and learning in the field of marketing. My journey so far has been filled with challenges and opportunities, and I hope my story inspires others to pursue their dreams with determination and resilience.
