My name is Mamorena Lesedi Mokobane, a driven and detail-oriented young professional with a passion for financial management and making a positive difference through accuracy and integrity in the workplace.
Work Experience
*Before securing my internship, I had taken part in various academic and volunteer roles such as completing my Diploma in Accountancy and Advanced diploma in Financial Management at the University of Johannesburg. I have always been committed to personal development, especially through community engagement, where I was involved in raising funds for learners without school shoes and organizing after-school tutoring. These experiences taught me the value of service, discipline, and responsibility.
Why Diploma in Finance/Commerce
I chose to pursue studies in Accounting because I am fascinated by the world of numbers, reporting, and financial planning. I have always seen finance as the backbone of any successful organization, and I wanted to be part of that engine room. My academic journey has been guided by the vision of contributing to efficient and ethical financial practices.
Internship
I secured my internship through the GWConnect platform. I followed the guidance provided, prepared thoroughly for interviews, and remained persistent in seeking the right opportunity. I was thrilled when I was selected for the Leisure Finance Intern position at Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG), a leading name in the travel and tourism sector.
Company
Currently, I am part of a dynamic finance team responsible for preparing daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations for various accounts such as Ticket Centre, Conferma (VCC), Helio, and Ad Hoc Suppliers. I also assist with operational duties such as open ledger coding, statement updates, and reporting. I’ve been exposed to finance systems like Omnis and learned how to ensure compliance with finance policies and standards.
What excites me most about my role is that I work within a team that values efficiency, accuracy, and continuous improvement. The environment is supportive, and I have the opportunity to interact with both finance and non-finance teams. I’ve grown in areas such as Excel reporting, customer service, and problem-solving under pressure.
This internship has helped me realise how important flexibility, communication, and professionalism are in a fast-paced corporate environment. I’m proud to be gaining real-world experience in a company that invests in its people, and I look forward to building a successful career in finance.
To every student out there: stay focused, be persistent, and embrace every opportunity to learn. Your breakthrough is on the way!
