About Me
My name is Esther Makgato, and I grew up in Hammanskraal, where I completed my matric at Kgaphamadi Secondary School in 2019. In 2020, I enrolled at Greenwood College in Pretoria West to upgrade my matric results. Although I improved my marks and moved from one level to another, it still wasn’t enough for the course I initially wanted to study. I decided to take a gap year in 2021 and later enrolled at Tshwane North College in 2022 to study Management Assistant, completing the course in 2023. My journey has taught me that success is not always a straight path — sometimes, it takes detours, challenges, and moments of self-discovery. I learned to trust my instincts, believe in my abilities, and pursue opportunities with determination. From upgrading my matric, taking a gap year, and finding the right course, to landing my internship through persistence, I am proud of how far I’ve come. This is only the beginning of my professional story, and I’m excited to see how far my hard work and passion will take me.

Work Experience
*I went straight from college into the workplace. In 2024, I worked in retail for two months before being offered the opportunity to attend an interview at the University of Pretoria later that same year.

Why N6 Management Assistant
Management Assistant had always been at the back of my mind during my gap year. Initially, because I had studied Mathematics and Science in high school, I assumed that was the path I had to follow. However, I had to be honest with myself — the role suited my personality and strengths much better. I’m a lively and outgoing person who enjoys social media and interacting with people. Being a receptionist or the face of a company allows my personality to shine while giving me the opportunity to create a welcoming and professional first impression.

Internship
In the second semester of 2024, I attended an interview at the University of Pretoria and was accepted for an internship. I have now been with the university for a year and two months. I learned about this opportunity through GWConnect, an agency I discovered via a friend who also secured an internship through them. I didn’t hesitate to contact them, and my persistence paid off — I regularly called to request interviews, and they were always supportive and encouraging.

Company
I am currently completing my internship at the University of Pretoria, where I continue to gain valuable hands-on experience and grow both professionally and personally.
