I grew up in Limpopo, in a village called Madonsi, where I learned the importance of hard work, perseverance, and education from a young age. I matriculated in 2015 and went on to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics at the University of Limpopo, which I completed in 2019. With a strong interest in understanding economic systems and financial decision-making, I furthered my studies by completing an Honours degree in Economics in 2020. The following year, in 2021, I obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, which helped me strengthen my communication, planning, and leadership skills.
Work Experience
*My professional journey has been shaped by adaptability, a strong work ethic, and a genuine interest in learning. Each role I’ve taken on no matter how different has contributed to who I am today: a committed and detail-oriented Finance Intern at Outex Chartered Accountants.
In 2021, I began my work experience as an Examination Assistant at the Department of Education, where I assisted in the administration and coordination of high school examinations. This role taught me how to work under pressure, stay organized, and maintain confidentiality skills. I carried into my second position that year as an Exam Invigilator at Malamulele Central Circuit, ensuring compliance and integrity during school-level assessments.
In 2023, I shifted into the retail space, working as a Cashier at Spar Saselamani. While it may seem unrelated to finance, this role sharpened my attention to detail, customer service, and cash-handling skills foundations that are invaluable in any financial environment.
In 2024, I briefly transitioned into education as a Teacher at Kinderwood Private School, where I developed strong communication, planning, and leadership abilities. Teaching required patience, precision, and the ability to simplify complex topics skills that are surprisingly transferable to finance.
Currently, I’m proudly serving as a Finance Intern at Outex Chartered Accountants, where I’m gaining real-world exposure to the finance and accounting industry. My key responsibilities include:
Processing invoices on Xero
Reconciling credit cards on Xero
Performing creditors reconciliations
Handling daily and monthly cash-up reconciliations
These tasks have given me practical experience in financial systems, attention to compliance, and accuracy in financial reporting. I’m learning to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while gaining confidence in using accounting software and developing my professional acumen.
Each step of my journey has been about learning, growing, and positioning myself closer to my passion for finance. I’m excited to continue building my career in accounting and financial management, and I’m eager for opportunities where I can contribute value while continuing to grow.
Why Degree in Finance/Commerce
I chose to study Economics because I’ve always been interested in understanding how money, markets, and decision-making shape the world we live in. Economics offers a powerful framework for analyzing how individuals, businesses, and governments allocate resources. What attracted me most was its ability to combine theory with real-world application, especially in solving financial and business-related problems.
As I progressed in my studies, I realized that Economics and Finance are deeply connected. Economics gave me the foundational knowledge to understand market behavior, financial systems, risk, and the broader economic environment that businesses operate in. This naturally led me to develop a strong interest in Finance particularly how organizations manage money, make investment decisions, and ensure long-term sustainability
