My name is Lesedi Mahloane, I am a recent graduate with a Diploma in Financial Management from the Tshwane University of Technology.
Work Experience
*After my studies I took a short‑term role as a cashier at KFC. It was only three months, but it taught me how to handle cash accurately, work under pressure, and interact with a diverse range of customers—skills that have proved invaluable in every finance role I’ve taken on since.
Why Diploma in Finance/Commerce
I chose financial management because I wanted a solid foundation in accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis. The program at TUT gave me both the technical know‑how and the practical tools I needed to turn my curiosity about money into a professional skill set.
Internship
When I was ready for real‑world experience, I signed up with Talent SA, a recruitment agency that specialises in placing graduates in internships. They matched me with Pick ‘n Pay, and after a brief interview I was offered the finance intern position.
Company
Pick ‘n Pay is one of South Africa’s largest retail chains, with a strong focus on community and sustainability. As a finance intern, I’m exposed to budgeting, month‑end reconciliations, and analysis that supports the company’s strategic decisions. The team is supportive, and the work gives me a clear view of how financial management drives a big‑scale business.
All in all, from a cashier at KFC to a finance intern at a retail giant, each step has reinforced my passion for finance and set me on a path I’m excited to keep building.
