My name is Sinethemba Dube. I’m 26 years old and I matriculated in 2018. I went on to study for a Bachelor of Administration at North-West University, starting in 2020 and completing my degree in 2024. My studies gave me a solid understanding of organizational processes, administration, and how different parts of an organization work together.
I consider myself organized, reliable, and eager to learn. I take pride in doing things properly and I’m motivated by opportunities that allow me to grow, develop new skills, and contribute positively to a professional environment.
Work Experience
*During my course of study, I volunteered to assist in offices, particularly during registration periods, but this was unfortunately cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In my second year, I then applied to join a community support program, which I remained part of until my final year of study.
In this program, we worked directly with communities, going door to door to educate people about HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. We also supported clinics by assisting with health education, engaging with patients, and helping to raise awareness around prevention, testing, and treatment.
Being involved in the program over several years helped me build strong communication skills, patience, and confidence when working with diverse communities. It also taught me the importance of consistency, teamwork, and responsibility in community-based work.
Why Degree in Business Management
I chose to study for a Bachelor of Administration because I wanted a qualification that would give me a broad understanding of how organizations function. I was interested in learning how planning, coordination, and decision-making come together to support both public and private institutions.
The degree also appealed to me because it develops practical skills such as organization, communication, and problem-solving, which are useful in many career paths. I felt it would give me a strong foundation and flexibility to grow into different roles as I gained more exposure and experience.
Internship
After graduating in 2024, I actively started looking for an internship that would give me practical exposure in administration, as I wanted to gain real, hands-on experience to kick-start my career. I applied to several internship opportunities, both directly with companies and through third-party platforms such as SA Youth.
I was later contacted and informed that I had been shortlisted for an interview. I remember that call clearly because I was genuinely excited — it felt like the opportunity I had been working towards. I went through the interview process and was successful, which led to me being offered the internship.
Company
I currently work for Sandton Plant Hire, based in Midrand. The company specializes in hiring out plant machinery to various mine sites and, occasionally, to construction sites. Since I began working here, the company has been training me to take over my supervisor’s daily responsibilities, as she will be going on maternity leave and I am required to fill in for her during this period.
My responsibilities include updating machine working hours for each site, processing job cards for mechanics, ensuring that all job cards are accounted for, and compiling monthly reports that detail which machines were worked on, the duration of the work, and the type of maintenance performed. I also handle the processing and tracking of machine movements between different sites.
I genuinely enjoy working for this company, as they have trusted me with significant responsibility. Although the role has been challenging, these challenges have contributed greatly to my personal and professional growth. I am eager to continue learning and growing within the company and to successfully complete the entirety of my internship.
