Why degree in computer science
I chose to study Information Science as I wanted to venture into the world of IT. I wanted something that had an integration of Information, business and Technology. Something that is broad and versatile.
Internship
After obtaining my degree, I didn’t want to pursue my post graduate studies without exploring the corporate world. Therefore, I started applying for different internships and so forth. I then discovered that University of Pretoria’s portal had a TuksCareers link where they post different opportunities. I then started applying and one day came across GWConnect and then I read about it and decided to try my luck by applying. To my surprise, within a month, they called me and told me that I should prepare myself for an interview in the upcoming weeks. I then went for an interview and after 3 weeks, they called me and told me that I got the internship.
Company
Cortell Intelligence Business Solutions is a consulting firm in partnership with IBM which deals with providing business solutions to customers or rather, clients. They are versatile in a sense that you can have an accounting degree and still gain some experience in the IT environment. It’s an exciting company to work for as you get to challenge yourself and move away from being normal to extraordinary. Each day comes with different things you can learn and the skills that you learn gives you a competitive advantage. The work environment is amazing. The team is there for you whenever you need help and doors to the director’s offices are always open. You can communicate with them anything and everything.
